WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF HENNA

Henna is an art which comprises a skillful technique of impromptu drawing with intricate design on the skin, primarily on the hand and feet, that varies from animal, geometric and floral motives. The origin of henna drawing dates back to the early civilizations from Persia to Indus.

The main purpose is for bodily decorations, which is supposed to enhance the exotic beauty of the female gender. Motives which derived from animal is widely used in the Hindu oriented caucus while the arab communities from Northern Africa to The Persian Gulf plays with more geometric and floral motives due to its strong religious restrictions.

Henna drawing resolve in the Malay culture due to its strong connection in the post Hindu culture that dates back to the 600 A.D. Designs are somewhat mellowed down to merely dots and simple paste, which focused primarily on the tips of the fingers and the palms of the hands. This somehow denotes lack of creativity or mere simplicity, and its usage somehow is limited to weddings and festive occasions.

It was only during the late nineties and during the euphoria of celebrities wedding and influx of modern day Bollywood’s movie that intricate henna design started to make any impact. It is during this period the acceptance of henna drawings is being embraced by the Malay culture. Hence, the malay society received it with inevitable mixed reactions. Some think it is a form of art while some think it is too deeply rooted in the Hindu traditions. The malay being staunch followers of traditions accept this new art form as long as its design does not contradict with the Islamic beliefs.

My henna design derived mainly from the Northern African design. It has strong roots in Persian floral motives mixed with traditional malay reliefs. After a few years of drawing I have managed to develop my own style and character which I am proud to call my own. My client will find it distinctively different from other henna artist in this part of the region.

I have so far design and produce a few wedding designs that is totally different and more intricate than my contemporaries. To me, each person comes with their own character and individuality hence each person shall be treated with their own distinctive design. No two design are alike. ENJOY.
